The first night of the conference will feature the Les Halliwell Address, a free event at the iconic Sugar Wharf in Port Douglas. Les Halliwell was a pioneer of Community Development in Queensland from the 1950's to 1970's, and the address is held in his memory to showcase local community development practice. Finger food, refreshing drinks, inspiration and great conversation is on the menu! NOTE: The Les Hallwell is booked separately from conference tickets.
The conference itself will be held in a community precinct at Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, the Port Douglas Community Hall and The Clink Theatre in stunning Port Douglas, just two blocks from vibrant Macrossan Street, with numerous accommodation options within walking distance. The Clink Theatre is a vibrant hub for local theatre, and was once was the old Mossman Court House and police lock-up!
Join us for a memorable conference dinner on the second night at Hemingway’s Brewery Port Douglas, where waterfront views meet relaxed, tropical vibes. Dress in your best tropical attire and get ready for an evening of great food, lively conversation, live music and a touch of Far North Queensland-inspired fun! NOTE: The conference dinner is included in the full registration price.
The Neighbourhood Centres Statewide Gathering takes place on the first day, before the Les Halliwell address and is an exclusive event for Neighbourhood Centre staff, volunteers and board members. An exclusive code is required to access tickets for the day from Neighbourhood Centres Queensland. Please email [email protected] for any assistance.
The entire event will feature inspirational speakers, practice discussions, workshops, opportunities for networking and rejuvenating activities, designed to celebrate and enhance Community Development practice across the state. It is an exciting opportunity to showcase Far North Queensland, and its unique approach in regional and remote communities, including work in First Nations communities, disaster affected areas and environmental protection.
